Healthiest Wine Choices
Want to spend less time at the gym and eating salads, and more time drinking wines with friends? Pick one of these styles next time ...
Pinot Noir
Considered the healthiest wine you can drink. The Pinot grapes start out with less sugar so has a lower ABV (alcohol by volume) and fewer calories. It has low tannins but high levels of resveratrol, which is great for weight loss and heart health.
Merlot
Merlot has high levels of resveratrol and procyanidin which can improve brain health, insulin sensitivity and increase our lifespan. The best part? It also contains melatonin to help relax the mind and induce sleep.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Scared of stained teeth? Cabernet Sauvignon contains a chemical that kills certain strains of cavity-causing bacteria and protects damage to tooth enamel.
Malbec
Malbec grapes have some of the thickest skins of all wine-grape varieties, which means they’re loaded with resveratrol, quercetin and other antioxidants that are great for your heart and immunity.
Rosé
Rosé is made from red grapes so has the benefits of reds but also is one of the lowest-calorie alcoholic drink choices available. A standard glass (120ml) has about 80 calories. Other low calorie options include prosecco, shiraz, pinot noir and champagne.
Stay away from Sweet Wines
Sweet whites like Moscato and sweet Rieslings (not dry) have no antioxidants and high sugar levels. It's alright to indulge but enjoy your salad and gym session with these too.
